Richie Cunning: "Night Train"

I'm not really one to fuck with reviews. With music being such a subjective art form, my favorites are bound to be different from yours... and I'm usually not trusting the opinion of someone who hasn't demonstrated a certain taste level. With that said take my advice and cop that Richie Cunning "Night Train" album right the fuck now. I got hip to this cat seeing the Rec-League dudes open for TopR time and time again and was always impressed. The album release party on Jan. 15th was off the damn chain... definitely one of the livest hip-hop shows I've ever seen. DJ Kevvy Kev, Melina Jones and The Rec-League opened up and all did their damn thing respectively, but Richie straight brought the house down. So without getting to nerdy or analytical on it let me just say that, even though it's still January I'm willing to bet this will reign as my favorite album of the year. If you go to the Rec-League website routinefly.com you can buy the album, grab free mixtapes and tracks from the whole crew and get a little insider information about some of the best emcees in the Bay right now... DO YOURSELF A FAVOR!

Wu-Tang vs. The Beatles

Usually I hate a mash-up album. Cats that think mixing Lynyrd Skynyrd with Jay-Z is somehow interesting are usually talentless buffoons with questionable taste levels. Once and a while though some clever alchemist can forge a union of two different artists, regardless of genre, that actually jive together. Tom Caruana took two of my all-time favorite artists, The Beatles and The Wu-Tang Clan and actually made something pretty dope. The Beatles label is notoriously not cool with sampling of any kind so I recommend copping this pronto before it's lost into the ethos... get it right here

RIP Teddy Pendergrass

Teddy Pendergrass passed away yesterday at 59. From his days with Harold Melvin and the Blue-Notes to his dope solo albums in the 70's and 80's, Teddy always brought a smooth sophistication to his brand of R&B. In the vein of Marvin Gaye his music was intelligent without being cliche, sensual without being corny and above all always fresh. Dude played a pivotal role in the conception of a generation. Today's R&B cats could really benefit from re-visiting the collected works of Mr. Pendergrass. Rest in Peace and much respect due...

The (Sean) Price is Right...

Sean Price is definitely one of my favorite rappers. Besides being a badass emcee, dude is hilarious. As a vegan I totally appreciate that the homie reads labels...he needs to stop fucking with them canned greens though.
